Description
The somoni is the official currency of Tajikistani since 2000 when it replaced the Tajikistani ruble. In 2001 the National Bank of Tajikistan introduced coins in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 diram, and 1, 3, and 5 somoni. In 2001, a second series was introduced in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50 dirams, and 1 somoni, followed by a third series in 2018.
The 5 Tajikistan somoni commemorative coin front design features the denomination and the National Emblem (consists of a crown with seven stars flanked on the left side by cotton and wheat on the right side) a ribbon with the colors of the national flag. The emblem contains the illustration of the Pamir mountains and a rising sun, supported at the base by an open book), surrounded by a Tajikistan motif pattern. The reverse of the coin design presents the Government building located in Dushanbe, the National flag, and a sketch map of Tajikistan. This coin is part of the 2006 commemorative series “15th Anniversary of Independence”. Its rim is fluted, and its color is silver and gold.
