The Sol is the official currency in Peru since 1991, replacing the indi that would be the currency used after that date. At first, the name “new sun” was used to differentiate it from the “old” circulated between 1985 and 1991. New monetary form coins were introduced in 1991 with denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 céntimos and 1 sol. Three years later, 2 and 5 sol. Currently are circulating the same denominations.
The 5 Céntimos coin front design features the National Coat of Arms of Peru. The reverse coin design has the denomination with Chimu illustrations from the city of Chan Chan. This coin is part of the 2007 – 2018 series, its rim is plain, and its color is silver.
