Description
The guaraní is the official currency in Paraguay since 1943, replacing the peso. The first coins were issued one year later in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 centimos. Then, in 1975 new denominations were introduced; 1, 5, 10 and 50 guaraníes, followed by 100 guaraníes in 1990, 500 guaraníes in 1997. In 2005 the 1, 5 and 10 coins were discontinued, and the 1000 guaraníes coin were added in 2006.
The 100 Guaraníes coin front design features bust of José Eduvigis Díaz Vera (1833 – 1867), who was a celebrated Paraguayan general. The reverse coin design has the Humaitá Fortress and the denomination. This coin is part of the 2006 – 2018 series, its rim is plain, and its color is silver.
