The Pakistani rupee is the official currency of Pakistan since 1948, when it replaced the British Indian after the British Raj dissolution in 1947. The first notes issued by the Government of Pakistan were in denominations of 1, 5, 10 and 100 rupees. In 1953, the State Bank of Pakistan established as an official issuing entity. Notes in denominations of 2, 5, 10 and 100 were issued, followed by the 50 rupees note in 1957, 500 rupees in 1986, 1000 rupees in 1988 and 5000 rupees in 2006.
The 5 Pakistani rupees note front design features the portrait of Muhammad Ali Jinnah (1876 –1948), who was the first Governor and the founder of Pakistan. The lettering is presented in the Arabic language, and the denomination and issue date in the English language. The reverse of the note presents an illustration of the Gwadar Port, located in Gwadar in the southwestern of Balochistan, one of the four provinces of Pakistan. The design is completed with the State Bank of Pakistan seal (a crescent and star) and the lettering presented in the English language. This note is part of the 2014 series, and its color is brown on a light blue and olive on a multicolor underprint.
