The Pakistani rupee is the official currency of Pakistan since 1948, when it replaced the British Indian after the British Raj dissolution in 1947. The first coins issued by the Government of Pakistan were in denominations 1 pice, ½, 1 and 2 annas, ¼, ½ and 1 rupee. In 1953, the State Bank of Pakistan established as an official issuing entity. In 1961, coins were introduced in denominations of 1, 5 and 10 pice, 1 paisa, 5 and 10 paise, followed by 10 and 25 paise in 1963 and 2 paise in 1964. The 1 rupee coin was issued in 1979, followed by 2 rupees in 1998, 5 rupees in 2002, and 10 rupees in 2016.
The 2 Pakistani rupees coin front design features the crescent and the star with two wheat springs and the issue date below (Islamic symbol). The lettering is presented in the Arabic language, and the issue date in the English language. The reverse coin design illustrates the Badshahi Mosque (Imperial Mosque), a Mughal era mosque located in Lahore, province of Punjab. This coin is part of the 2007 – 2020 series, its rim is plain, and its color is silver.
