The New Zealand dollar is the official currency of New Zealand (the Cook Islands, Niue, the Ross Dependency, Tokelau, and the Pitcairn Islands). The official currency symbol: $, NZ$.
The New Zealand dollar was established in 1967 to replace the New Zealand pound. The first coins were introduced in denominations of 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, and 50c. The 1c and 2c coins were demonetized in 1990, and the following year, the $ 1 and $ 2 coins were minted to replace bills of that value. The Reserve Bank announced the retirement of the 5-cent coin in 2004 and the redesign of the 50, 20, and 10-cent coins, which began in 2005. Today, are five denominations of coins in regular circulation: 10c, 20c, 50c, $1, and $2.
The 10 New Zealand cents coin front design features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (Queen of the United Kingdom and 15 other commonwealth realms), the country name, and the issue date. The reverse of the coin presents Māori carved mask followed by Māori rafter patterns and the denomination. This coin is part of the 2006 – 2021 series, its rim is plain, and its color is bronze.
