Description

The Netherlands Antillean gulden is the official currency in Curaçao and Sint Maarten. The Dutch gulden circulated the Netherland Antilles since the 18th century. After the Netherlands Antilles’ dissolution, Curaçao and Sint Maarten are planning to replace the gulden with a Caribbean gulden, but the project is still running. The name “Nederlandse Antillen” showed up first time in 1952. Coins with denominations of 1 and 2 ½ cents were issued in 1979, followed by 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents, 1 and 2 ½ gulden in 1989. The 5 gulden coin were introduced in 1998.

The reverse coin design has the denomination surrounded by a border of beads with shells. This coin is part of the 1989 – 2016 series, its rim is plain, and its color is gold.
