Description
The lev is the official currency of Moldova. The official currency symbol: L. The currency’s name is derived from a Romanian word that means “lion.” The Moldovan leu was established in 1993 to replace the temporary coupon currency, following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the creation of the independent Republic of Moldova. Moldovan leu coins have been issued in two series. In 1993, the National Bank of Moldova issued the first coin series in denominations of 1, 5, 25 and 50 bani and 1 and 5 lei. These last issued 1 and 5 lei coins were withdrawn from circulation in 1994. the 10 bani coin was introduced in 1996, and two years later, the 50 bani coin was redesigned, which was the starting point for modern coins Moldovans. A second series was introduced in 2018; the 1 and 5 lei coins were reintroduced, and new 2 and 10 lei coins were issued.
The 10 Moldovan bani coin front design features the National Coat of Arms, followed by an oak branch and the country’s name. The reverse of the coin presents the denominations and the issue date above the letter ‘’M” (Moldova). This coin is part of the 1995 – 2020 series, its rim is plain, and its color is silver.
