The 5 Malaysian sen coin front design features the Chinese hibiscus, or China rose, also known as Hawaiian hibiscus or rose mallow, the national flower of Malaysia, followed by the denomination, the name of the bank, and the issue date.
The coin’s reverse presents a “destar siga” pattern, an indigenous form of fabric weaving that originates from the Kadazan Dusun tribe in Sabah, also followed by the ‘sulur kacang’ as a background motif. This coin is part of the 2011 – 2020 series, its rim is plain, and its color is silver.

The Malaysian ringgit is the official currency of Malaysia.
In 1967 the Malaysian ringgit replaced the Malaya and British Borneo dollar at par.
The Bank Negara Malaysia 1971 issued the first coins in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, and 50 sen, also followed by a 1 ringgit coin.
In 1989 Malaysia introduced a second redesigned coins series. Also, In 2005, bank Negara withdrew the 1 ringgit.
In 2011 Malaysia introduced the third coins series, in denominations of 5, 10, 20, and 50 sen.
The official currency symbol: is RM. The term “ringgit” originally referred to the serrated edges of silver Spanish dollars that circulated widely in the region from the Philippines to the Spanish East Indies.
