Description

The dinar is the official currency of Kuwait since 1960, when it replaced the Gulf rupee. In 1961, the first coin series was issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 fils; Kuwaiti coins maintain their design and technical conditions since their first issue until 1988 was the 1 fils coin introduced.

The 5 Kuwaiti fils coin front design features the denomination and the name of the country in Arabic and English languages. The reverse coin design illustrates a sailing boom that appears in the Emblem of Kuwait; a type of dhow that holds a Kuwaiti flag, and the date in the Islamic and Gregorian calendar in the Arabic language. This coin is part of the 1962 – 2011 (1382 – 1432) series, its rim is plain, and its color is gold.
