Description

The pound sterling is the official currency of the United Kingdom, Jersey, England, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, the British Antarctic Territory, and Tristan da Cunha. The pound was a unit of account in Anglo-Saxon England, and its origins date back to the reign of King Offa of Mercia (757–796). In 1834, the pound sterling was adopted as official legal tender, replacing the franc. Bank of England notes is accepted as legal tender in Jersey, while Jersey notes are not legal tender in the United Kingdom. Different issues of notes have occurred since 1963, the latter took place in 2010, presenting banknotes in denominations of 1£, 5£, 10£, 20£, 50£ and 100£. The Bank of England oversees the monetary policy of the pound sterling and regulates the amount of money in circulation. Official currency symbol: £/p (pre-decimal).

The 10 Jersey pounds note front design features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (Queen of the United Kingdom and 15 other commonwealth realms), on a background containing the Hermitage of St Helier located on Elizabeth Castle, the National Coat of Arms (consist of a red shield with three gold lions passant guardant), and a sketch of the map of Jersey. The lettering on this side of the note is presented in the English language. The reverse of the note presents a view of the Seymour Tower located in L’Avarison island, which is a tower used as a defensive point throughout Jersey’s history, and the Lalique glass sculptures of the St Matthew’s Church (the Glass Church) located in Millbrook; the design is completed with a sketch of the map of Jersey. The language on this side of the note is presented in the French language. This note is part of the 2010 series, and its color is reddish-brown on a multicolor underprint.
