Description

The dollar is the official currency in Jamaican since 1969 after the Jamaican House of Representative voted to introduce the dollar. Banknotes of 50 cents, 1, 2 and 10 dollars were introduced, followed by the 5 and 20 notes dollars between 1970 and 1976. In the same period, the 50 cents note were replaced by the coin. 100 dollars note were added in 1986, followed by 50 dollars note in 1988. Between 1990 and 1994, The 1 and 5 dollars note was substituted by coins, and the 500 dollars note were issued. Years later, the 10 and 20 dollars coins replaced the notes and the 1000 dollars note were added. The last denomination added was the 5000 dollars note in 2009. 

 Currently are circulating banknotes in denominations of 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 Jamaican dollars. 

The 100 Dollars note front features Sir Donald Sangster (1911 – 1967), who was a Jamaican solicitor and politician, and the second Prime Minister of Jamaica, Jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosifolia). The reverse note side has Dunn’s River Falls, Crocodile (Crocodylus acutus). This note is part of the 2003-2019 series and, its color is Black and purple on lilac and multicolor underprint. (145 x 68 mm)
