Description

The Honduran lempira is the official currency in Honduras and was named in honor of the Cacique Lempira in the 16th Century. The lempira was introduced to replace the peso in 1931. The first banknotes in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 lempiras were issued in 1932 by the Bank of Honduras and the Banco Atlantida. In 1950, the 50 and 100 lempiras notes were issued, followed by the 500 lempiras banknote in 1995.

The 100 Lempiras note front design features José Cecilio del Valle (who was the 3rd President-elect of the Federal Republic of Central America). The reverse note side has the image of the House where Del Valle was born, Choluteca. This note is part of the 2012 – 2016 series and, its color is yellow and orange.

Text: Cien Lempiras, República de Honduras, Banco Central de Honduras, BCH, Jose Cecilio del Valle, Presidente, Gerente, Secretario de Finanzas, OBERTHUR Fiduciaire, Casa donde nació el sabio Valle, 100.
