Description

The lari is the official currency of Georgia. The name lari is derived from an old Georgian word referring to hoard or property, while tetri means “white”. The official currency symbol: . Initially, Georgia used a currency known as kuponi, which replaced the Russian ruble and consisted only of banknotes. Then in 1995, the government replaced the kuponi with the lira and introduced coins in denomination of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 tetri, and 1 and 2 lari.

The 5 Georgian tetri coin front design features Borjgali (a Georgian symbol of the Sun and eternity) around a tree of life. The denomination is divided by the Borjgali and the country’s name in the Georgian and English language. The reverse of the coin design presents a statue of a golden lion from the third millennium B.C. (Alazani Valley) and the denomination, all surrounded by a vegetal ornament. This coin is part of the 1993 series, its rim is plain, and its color is silver.
