Description
The pound is the official currency in the Falkland Islands since 1833 when the British Government introduced it. The first issued by the Falkland Islands bank were ½, 1, 2, 5 and 10 pence coins in 1974, followed by the 50 pence coin in 1980 and 20 pence coin in 1982. The 1 and 2 pound coins were introduced between 1987 and 2004 and, the ½ penny was discontinued in 1983.
The 5 Falkland Islands Pence coin front design features an Elizabeth II (Queen of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth realms) bust. The reverse coin design has a black-browed albatross and the denomination below. This coin is part of the 2004 – 2011 series, its rim is fluted, and its color is silver.
