Description

The nakfa is the official currency in Eritrea since 1997 when it replaced the Ethiopian birr. In 2015, the Bank of Eritrea started a top-secret operation to replace all the banknotes to combat the counterfeiting given by the informal economy and especially the human trafficking. In 2016 the old nakfa banknotes stopped recognizing as legal tender. The banknotes series were issued in 2015 with denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 nakfa.

The 10 Eritrean nakfa note front design features the portrait of Eritrea’s nine nationalities; three young Eritrean women, a scene of the Eritrean War of Independence (raising the flag when Eritrea gained independence from Ethiopia in 1991), a camel seal, the denomination and signatures in Arabic and Tigrinya. The reverse note side illustrates the Eritrean railway and the denomination. This note is part of the 2015 series, and its color is brown and green.
