The Eastern Caribbean dollar is the official currency in East Caribbean since 1965. Six of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union use the Currency: Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent Grenadines. The other two, Anguilla and Montserrat, are British Overseas Territories. These states are all members of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union. In 1982 were issued with denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 25 cents, and 1 dollar.

The 1 Eastern Caribbean Dollar coin front design features an Elizabeth II (Queen of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth realms) portrait. The reverse coin design illustrates the Golden Hind, a galleon captained by Sr. Francis Drake, which sailed around the world between 1577 and 1580, and the denomination in both sides of the ship. This coin is part of the 1989 – 2000 series, its rim is plain and with five fluted sides, and its color is silver.
