Description

The first signs of the Dominican peso date back to 1844, when it replaced the Haitian gourde. A second Dominican currency was issued between 1891 and 1897, the franc. But it did not replace the Dominican peso until 1905 when the US dollar replaced the peso until 1937 when regulation was generated to define the Dominican peso as the national currency. Coins were issued in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25 centavos and ½ and 1 peso in 1939.

The 25 Dominican Pesos coin front design features Gregorio Luperón (1839 – 1897), who was one of the leaders in the Dominican Republic restoration. The reverse coin design has the Coat of Arms and the denomination. This coin is part of the 2006 series. Its rim is gross fluted and its color silver.
