The Czech koruna is the official currency of the Czech Republic. The official currency symbol; Kč. The Czech koruna replaced the Czechoslovak koruna in 1993, as a result of the Czechoslovakia dissolution. The first coins introduced were in denominations 10, 20, and 50 haléřů, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 korun. In 2000, new 10 and 20 korun coins were introduced, and the 10 and 20 haléřů coins were withdrawn in 2003, followed by the 50-haléřů coin in 2008. Since 1997, collector sets with proof-quality coins have been released once a year. There is also a numismatic tradition of issuing commemorative coins, including silver and gold coins.
The 50 Czech korun coin front design features the Czech Lion of the Coat of Arms, the country’s name, the denomination, and the issue date. The reverse of the coin illustrates a view of Prague (Capital City) with the inscription “PRAGA MATER URBIUM” (Prague, the Mother of Towns); the Karlův most (Charles Bridge), Saint Vitus’s Cathedral, and others. This coin is part of the 1993 – 2021 series, its rim is plain, and its color is gold and bronze.
