Description
The Colombian peso has been the official currency in Colombia since 1810, when the real was replaced. In 1923, the Banco de la República de Colombia was created, and in 1931 it abandoned the gold standard to link its exchange rate to the US dollar. The first coin issues were 5 and 50 centavos. Between 1980 and 1996, coins with denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 pesos were introduced. A new coines series were announced in 2012.
The 100 Pesos coin front design features the Frailejón (Espeletia grandiflora). The reverse coin design has the denomination with a raised dot and wave pattern all around. This coin is part of the 2012 series, its rim is plain, and its color is gold.
