Do you have a Chile 500 Pesos Coin? Here’s how to exchange it with us.
The Chilean peso has been the official currency of Chile since 1817 after the country’s independence, but in 1959 the peso was replaced by the “escudo”. After a series of statutory decrees, the peso was once again positioned as the country’s official currency in 1975. The coins were introduced in denominations of 1,2, 10 and 50 centavos and 1 peso. One year later, the 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 banknotes were replaced by coins.
The 500 Pesos coin front design features the Cardinal Raúl Silva Henríquez (1907 – 1999), who was appointed Archbishop of Santiago on May 25, 1961, by Pope John XXIII. The reverse coin design has the denomination surrounded by a laurel wreath. This coin is part of the 2000 series, its rim is fluted, and its color is gold and silver.
