Do you have a Chile 1 Peso Coin? Here’s how to exchange it with us.
The Chilean peso has been the official currency of Chile since 1817 after the country’s independence, but in 1959 the peso was replaced by the “escudo”. After a series of statutory decrees, the peso was once again positioned as the country’s official currency in 1975. The coins were introduced in denominations of 1,2, 10 and 50 centavos and 1 peso. One year later, the 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 banknotes were replaced by coins.
The 1 Peso coin front design features Bernardo O’Higgins (1778 – 1842), a national hero who signed Chile’s independence in 1818. The reverse coin design has the denomination surrounded by a laurel wreath. This coin is part of the 1975 series, its rim is plain, and its color is silver.
