Description
The Brunei dollar is the official currency of the Sultanate of Brunei. The official currency symbol: $, B$. The Brunei dollar was established in 1967 after the Currency Interchangeability Agreement with Singapore, in which the Brunei dollar is interchangeable with the Singapore dollar. The Malaysian dollar, Singapore dollar and the Brunei dollar are circulating all at par, and they replaced the Malaya and British Borneo dollar. The government introduced the first coins in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents. Four series of coins have been introduced since 1967; the four and last series was introduced in 1993 in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents.
The 20 Brunei sen coin front design features the portrait of Hassanal Bolkiah, who is the 29th and current Sultan, Yang di-Pertuan of Brunei and the Prime Minister.
The reverse of the coin presents a Brunei local design which represents a tree, the name of the country, the denomination, and the issue date. This coin is part of the 1993 – 2016 series, its rim is fluted, and its color is silver.
