The real is the official currency in Brazil since 1994. From the middle of the 17th century until 1942, the real was the only currency until a monetary reform removed it from circulation. Then the cruzeiro was imposed until 1986 when the cruzado was put into circulation until 1989. The real cruzeiro returned in 1993 for a whole year, until the country returned to the Brazilian real, after many years of inflation. One year later, banknotes were issued in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50, and 100 reais, followed by 2 reis and 20 reis.
Currently, there are 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 reais banknotes. In December 2005, the Central Bank of Brazil stopped the production of the 1 real banknote.
The 10 Reais in the front design of the note features The Republic’s Effigy, portrayed as a bust. The reverse note side has the image of a Green-winged macaw (Ara chlorepterus) in a horizontal format. This note is part of the 2010-2020 series. Its color is Dark brown, brown-violet, and brown-orange on lilac and pale orange underprint.
