The Bolivia bolivianos is the official currency in Bolivia since 1864 when it replaced the Bolivian peso. In 1987, notes were printed in denominations of 1, 5, 10 and 50 centavos, and 1, 5 and 10 bolivianos. The same year the series was completed with 2,5 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 bolivianos. Between 1991 and 2013, the 2 and 5 bolivianos were replaced by coins and withdrawn. In 2018 The Central Bank of Bolivia announced a new series of banknotes with Bolivia “Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia”, alluding to a multicultural country.
Currently are circulating banknotes in denominations 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 Bolivia bolivianos.
The 50 bolivianos note front features Melchor Pérez de Holguin (1660 – 1732), who was a painter considered one of the best artists in Bolivia’s history. The reverse note side has the Torre de la Compañia main religious monument of the 18th century in Bolivia. This note is part of the 2015 – 2016 series and, its color is purple on multicolor underprint. (140 × 69 mm).
