Description

The dollar is the official currency in Barbados since 1935, when the Barbadian government issued paper money denominated in dollars. This currency replaced the East Caribbean Dollar, and coins were introduced in denominations of 1¢, 5¢, 10¢, 25¢ and 1 dollar in 1973.

The Barbadian 10 Dollars coin front design features the National Coat of Arms (consist of two Pride of Barbados flowers, the National Flower and the Bearded Fig Tree, a dolphin and a Pelican, The Pelican Island, a helmet, mantling and a wreath, one arm and hand holding two crossed pieces of sugar cane and a saltire cross. The motto “Pride and Industry”), with two Broken Trident (Neptune’s broken trident is a prominent detail of the national flag which symbolizes the independence of the nation from Great Britain). The reverse coin design illustrates Neptune, God of The Sea, holding The Broken Trident with one hand and a fish in the other hand, below the denomination. This coin is part of the 1973 – 1981 series, its rim is fluted, and its color is silver.
