Description

The manat is the official currency of Azerbaijan. The word manat derived from the Latin word “Moneta” and the official currency symbol: . The first appearance of the currency dates between 1919 and 1923, when the manat replaced the first Transcaucasian ruble at par; then, the manat was replaced by the second Transcaucasian ruble after Azerbaijan became part of the Transcaucasian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic. The second manat was introduced in 1992, replacing the Soviet ruble, and a third series was announced in 2006 and banknotes in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 manat were introduced. In 2009 the Azərbaycan Milli Bankı (National Bank of Azerbaijan) was renamed the Azərbaycan Respublikasının Mərkəzi Bankı (Central Bank of Azerbaijan). A 1 manat banknote was issued one year later, followed by 5 manat in 2012 and 10 manat in 2017, all of them with was published with the new name of the issuing bank.

The 50 Azerbaijani manat note front design features a scene from Education and Future, represented by a teacher and two students as a symbol of progress and youth. The sun, which represents strength and light and chemical and mathematical symbols that represent science. The reverse of the note presents a stylized map depicting the integration of Azerbaijan into Europe on a background with Azerbaijani patterns. The lettering is presented in the Azerbaijani language. This note is part of the 2005 series, and its color is olive-green, blue and multicolor.
