500 Austrian Schilling Banknote Design
The 500 Austrian schilling note front design features the portrait of Rosa Mayreder (1858 – 1938) was an Austrian freethinker, author, painter, musician, and feminist. The design is completed with a stylized design of the National Coat of Arms.
The reverse of the note presents the portraits of Rosa Mayreder and her husband, the Austrian architect Karl Mayreder; they are accompanied by a group of members of the women’s associations of the Vienna Federal Parliament. The lettering of the note is presented in the German language. This note is part of the 1997 series, and its color is brown on a multicolor underprint.

In 1924 Austria established the first schilling after the Schilling Act’s pronouncement.
The following year the Oesterreichische Nationalbank issued notes in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 100, and also 1,000 schilling.
Introduced Between 1927 and 1929 the second series of banknotes, with denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, and also 100 schilling.
Abolished In 1938, the schilling, Then in the wake of Germany’s annexation of Austria.
After World War II, Allied Military reintroduced the schilling in 1945. Emitted Banknotes in denominations of 50 groschen, 2, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 100, and also 1000 schilling.
The same year, the National Bank began issuing schilling notes, followed by coins in the next year.
In addition, in 1947 a new schilling law introduced new banknotes. In denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and also 1,000 schilling.
Issued the first 500 schilling banknote in 1957, and also coins replaced the 5 and 10 schilling notes.
In 1980, replaced the 20 schilling note with coins. Also, in 1988 added the 5,000 schilling notes.
The euro became the official currency of Austria in 1999; however, introduced in 2002 euro coins and notes.
