Armenia 3 Dram

Description

The Armenian dram is the official currency of Armenia and the first currency date from 1199 to 1375. The official currency symbol: ֏. The word dram means “money” in the English language; the word is related to the Greek drachma and the Arabic dirham, and the English unit of weight dram. After Armenia was proclaimed as an independent republic in 1991, the Central Bank of Armenia was established as an official issuing entity in 1993; the first coin series was introduced in denominations of 10, 20 and 50 luma, 1, 3,5 and 10 dram. A second series was introduced between 2003 and 2004, in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 dram.

The 3 Armenian dram coin front design features National Coat of Arms (consists of a shield with five scenes; 1st (top left) features a lion with a cross rising from its back, 2nd (top right) a double-headed eagle, 3rd (bottom left) has a roundel loaded with an octofoil between two eagles tied and worshiped, the 4th (bottom right) a guardian passing lion holding a cross and the 5th (center-center) Mount Ararat with the waters of the flood and Noah’s ark on top. A bald eagle and a lion support the shield. The base comprises a bunch of wheat flowers, a feather, a broken chain, a ribbon, and a sword.), and the country’s name. The reverse coin design presents the denomination between branches of wheat and the issue date. This coin is part of the 1994 series, its rim is fluted, and its color is silver.
