The peso is the official currency in Argentina since 1992, and it replaced the austral. The government introduced a banknotes series with 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 pesos. A coin replaced the 1 peso note. In 2016 the Banco Central de la República de Argentina announced a new banknotes series adding 200 and 500 denominations. One year later, the 1000 pesos note were issued.

The 5 Pesos note front features General José de San Martín (1778 – 1850), who was an Argentine general and the prime leader of the southern and central parts of South America’s successful struggle for independence, the monument Cerro de la Gloria located in the province of Mendoza, and a grenadier soldier. The reverse note side has the South American freedom fighters José Artigas, Simón Bolívar, José de San Martín, Bernardo O’Higgins. This note is part of the 2015 – 2020 series and, its color is green, light blue, violet, and yellow.
