The peso is the official currency in Argentina since 1992, and it replaced the austral. The government introduced a banknotes series with 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 pesos. A coin replaced the 1 peso note. In 2016 the Banco Central de la República de Argentina announced a new banknotes series adding 200 and 500 denominations. One year later, the 1000 pesos note were issued.
The 200 Pesos note front features a Southern Right Whale emerging from the sea, was declared a National Natural Monument within Argentine jurisdictional waters in 1984. The reverse note side has Valdés Peninsula, a map of Argentina. This note is part of the 2015 – 2020 series and, its color is Blue. (155 × 65 mm).
